Attn Word Nerds! Tomorrow at the new & improved @knifeforkbook space, the 2nd round of @mid_night_mass pop-ups in the day (12-7) and then an evening of sex and the city to celebrate @kirby’s recent work This Is Where I Get Off, a psychogeographic tour (ok, Oral HisStory) of a bygone Toronto, through AIDS, Raids and wrecking ball brigades. I’ll be reading from a current piece Like You Were Never Here At All (about my own tug of war with posterity and letting go in a city that will no longer house even my ghosts) – and then I’m excited to be heading a Q&A with Kirby with selections from TIWIGO. There’s so much in it to unpack about the changing face of intimacy, the joys of risk and public space as a necessary backdrop to private life, the fight against shame & self-isolation in a world before swiping, and how any of us that find ourselves stubbornly trying ever-harder to maintain our routines and mindsets of a city as we knew it can do right by the ghosts in our lives as the set itself is undeniably gutted faster than we’re able to bury our dead. It should be a great conversation. Come for the books in the day, but you’ll want to leave the kids at home for the TIWIGO part.
