I’ll never forget when an MFA colleague’s response to the plethora of queer poets and writers I presented asked, Why do I not know of these? or when mentioning Duane Michals as a choice for my studies, a faculty advisor suggesting I choose someone more ‘relevant.’ My intent in this poetry reading series is to give these often unnoticed, unheralded, unabashedly queer poets their due. – Kirby
